What a tuk-tuk should cost in Mirissa
Nipun's father drives one. The family were running cars and boats here before the first room opened, so these are the fares we would expect to pay ourselves — not the ones a driver opens with.

Prices drift, and other sites quote very different numbers for the same ride. That is why this page carries a date.
The rides you probably will not need
Mirissa Beach and back is a few hundred rupees. It is a 7-minute walk from our gate on a path that runs past the river rather than along the road, so most guests walk it. The whale harbour is 1.9 km, and for guests with a boat to catch we arrange that ride ourselves, at half past five in the morning.
Agreeing the fare
Agree it before you get in. PickMe is metered and usually cheaper than the street price. If a driver quotes you double, walk away — there is another tuk-tuk thirty seconds behind him.

Cash
Drivers take rupees and nothing else. There are ATMs in Mirissa and in Weligama. Nobody here has a card machine, ourselves included.
