The simplest option is a private car straight to the door — around 165 km, mostly on the E01 southern expressway. We can arrange a driver who knows the house; tell us your flight number and he will be at arrivals with your name. A metered taxi from the airport costs more and takes the same time.
The coastal line from Colombo Fort to Weligama is one of the great train rides in Asia — the track runs along the sand for the last hour. Get off at Weligama, then a tuk-tuk to us takes fifteen minutes. Book a reserved seat if you can; unreserved carriages fill up.
34 km down the coast road. A tuk-tuk is fine for this distance if you are travelling light, otherwise take a car. Buses run constantly along the main road and cost almost nothing, but they will drop you on the highway, a ten-minute walk away.
Most people come by private car through Wellawaya and Matara. There is no direct train. If you are on a budget, the bus via Matara works but expect it to take most of the day.
Four kilometres. A tuk-tuk is the obvious choice. If you have been surfing at Weligama and want a quieter base, this is a very short move.
What a tuk-tuk should cost
Prices drift, but as a sanity check: Mirissa Beach and back is a few hundred rupees, Weligama around 1,000–1,500, Galle 4,000–6,000. Agree the fare before you get in, or use the PickMe app, which is metered and usually cheaper. If a driver quotes you double, walk away — there is another tuk-tuk thirty seconds behind him.
